Message from the Dean

The Graduate School of Business Sciences of the University of Tsukuba was established in 1989 as the first graduate school for business professionals in Japan. Courses are offered during weekday evenings and Saturdays, allowing students to acquire advanced degrees without having to take a career break. The first program to be established was the Master’s Program in Systems Management which integrated the fields of management, mathematics and information technology. The second program, the Master’s Program in Business Law, was launched the following year in 1990. The Doctoral Program in Systems Management and Business Law, aimed at advanced and specialized education and research, followed next in 1996. In 2005, the Law School Program to train the judicial officers and the MBA Program in International Business, aimed at the development of global business leaders and taught fully in English, were established to meet the changing needs of society.
Today, we are faced with great uncertainty and rapid changes in the global economy. The environment surrounding business is also changing dramatically. Business professionals are required to have the ability to take a broad overview of the entire management, rather than to be restricted by myopic thinking and dominant, popular ideas.
The Graduate School of Business Sciences is not only a place for learning Jurisprudence and Business Administration, but is also a venue for acquiring new intellectual values in these academic fields. This is clear from the name, “Business Sciences,” the field of study where new intellectual value is created, and where cutting-edge academia, practical knowledge and experience are organically integrated. At this hub of knowledge, we fully support business professionals who learn to systematize their knowledge and professional experiences and who strive to restructure their approach to their business problems through taking on board leading theories, more advanced knowledge and innovative thinking processes.
